I had no idea about menopause until I went through it. And I was an accredited sex & relationship therapist! Night sweats, hot flushes, heart palpitations, weight gain around my midriff: these things were really worrying until I realised it was hormonal changes of menopause. One trip to my doctor, getting a prescription, led to immediate 100% symptomatic relief. Others have had worse nightmares with menopause affecting their career, mental health, relationships and family life. I don’t want anyone to suffer in silence – or even worse – be as clueless as I was about menopause creeping up on them.
That’s why my sister and I set up Mentrix, to equip and empower anyone who’s affected to rebalance their life opening up creative opportunity for fulfilment in this powerful later stage of life. It’s a time when we can support others to share the wisdom they’ve accrued from their life experience. I think that ignorance and shame around menopause are truly tragic. It doesn’t have to be this way.
The aim of Mentrix is to overcome these difficulties with dignity and grace and probably a big dollop of humour.
Listening to what’s important for each person and exploring what would ideally be better or different. Manifesting my manifesto of sharing knowledge to do some good in the world and making menopause suffering a thing of the past
Now in my 50s, I’ve worked in a range of settings, from global corporates – as an EMEA account director for BBDO – or as a sole trader entrepreneur in private practice at Ashlar Evolution. A broad skillset helps along the way, from broadcast media, through web-based apps, to accounting systems plus ethics and legal stuff like data protection.
My commitment to life-long learning started from A levels and university, through retraining in psychotherapy, to a more recent training as a menopause coach. Several supervisors guide me through the work I do.
I walk the walk from individual therapy to peer supervision or group therapy. I’ve delved deeply into trauma healing and spiritual practice. Spending time with horses keeps me grounded and connected to being in nature. Painting and the arts open the door to mystery and magic.
Lots of learning from relationships (ones that worked, some that failed) keep me sane and focused.
